CP – The Creative Process: What it is, how it works & how it can be influenced

Creative blockades, the feeling of simply not finding a solution. After that, we stop doing it. We procrastinate.

Procrastination seems like to be the worst enemy, but is it really that bad?
Or can we even use it?

First, it's important to know what creativity and its process are about and how it can be influenced. Fear, doubt, control (or loss of it), boredom and daydreaming are part of it, all connected by procrastination. But procrastination is may not as bad as we think.

This project is not about delaying everything unnecessarily, but rather about what it means to trust your creativity.
It consists of a scientifically written essay and a visual elaboration.

The Creative Process – Base
The Creative Process – Group AR

Preparation – In the first stage, you need to create a foundation, which is important for creativity to emerge. It’s kind of a knowledge base that arises from gathering information and identifying problems. You have to choose if you want to work in a group. This decision is not without reason important for the creative process, whether at university or at work.

Incubation – Having an idea does not always run smoothly. In most cases it turns out to be more difficult than expected, our creativity makes us wait. For the creative process that doesn‘t mean that we deliberately work on the raw material but much more that we need to allow a maturing process.

The Creative Process – Enlightment
The Creative Process – Yes or No

Illumination – And then it happens, the third stage. After all this doubt, rejecting ideas, procrastination and daydreaming. Eureka! That‘s the point you looked forward to. The brainstorm. You have an idea. Wallas compares this moment with the feeling of enlightenment.

The Creative Process – Elaborate

Verification – The fourth stage is about consolidating the idea, working it out and improving it. It could also be the moment when we realize, that this was probably nothing. This may be because we are perfectionists, and the idea hadn‘t enough time to mature. But it also could be just that. It‘s important to distinguish between these two things.
